Welcome to the academic year 2010-2011. As the world changes with and around us, we have a growing responsibility to work together to learn as much as we can so that that we can all help improve the situation globally, inter-regionally, nationally and locally – as well as for ourselves. This requires a great deal of energy, cooperation and communication between students, teaching staff and administration. I say this: EXCELLENT!!!!
The University of Urbino Faculty of Languages is one of the best in Italy, and the Language and Culture for Business course is an important part of that. It is OUR course! It belongs to you, me, our colleagues in teaching, research and administration, the university, the town, the territory and the country. Our decision to participate in this educational path affects and will continue to affect the way we live in our towns, countries, families, jobs and the world. It is a very important part of our current and future lives. This means we MUST give it as much energy, interest, patience, good attitude and intelligence as we possibly can. I say: EXCELLENT!!! As with everything in life – the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. Our input – yours and mine – will help contribute to the creation of quality in class, in the course, in the university and in the world of work. This is going to be interesting, challenging, difficult, tiring, energising, confusing and many other things, but it should also be FUN and REWARDING!!! When you spend energy doing something that gives you results – when I spend energy helping a student learn English and/or something about economics, history and culture – I feel rewarded. Sometimes the results do not reveal themselves immediately – patience! Sometimes they do not reveal themselves in the way we imagine – interesting!
As we get into the mix of classes and seminars, etc., remember: AVANTI COME LE BESTIE!!!!!!!!
I’m really looking forward to this year with you guys! I’ll see you in class!
