Guys!!! I am proud of you!!! So far I see that most of you are doing well in your exam cycle!!! I haven’t marked the listening exams yet. In fact, I’ll do that just as soon as I finish writing this.
It is a great time to be alive (as all time must be!). The sun is shining, the birds are singing – YOU are doing well and working hard at your exams, the football team is really doing well, and Stefano Pivato has won the office of Rector of the University of Urbino Carlo Bo: not an easy job, but we have full faith that he will do it well!
Some notes:
Notte bianca: I wasn’t in town for that, and this year I must say that I’m not sorry to have missed it. While I hope that all of YOU had a great and safe time, I’ve also heard that there was some drunk and disorderly behaviour and that there was some extreme violence on the part of one of the residents against people in the square. I sincerely hope that none of you were involved in the drunk and disorderly, nor victims of the violence! The notte bianca is a great time to let loose and relax with everybody, stay up late, exagerate a bit, and have one hell of a good time. It also, however, takes place in a town that is home to many people who MUST BE RESPECTED!!! There is NO contrast between having a good time and a few drinks with friends and enjoying the music in the open air and respecting the townspeople. We’ve all been in piazza at 4 am. Sometimes it looks like the high throne of squalor at that time of day – incongruent with respect for the town in which we all live. Please remember that we will all have a better time for much longer if our exagerations and fun are expressed in socially positive ways: conversation, socialisation, song, music, dancing etc., but that the volumes are respectful and that there IS NEVER ANY REASON FOR VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR. There IS ALWAYS A REASON TO HAVE FUN WITH LIFE!!! The two are simply not compatible.
That said, I hope you all had a great time!!!!
In other news, the faculty FOOTBALL team of LINGUE will play against the FACULTY OF PHARMACY at 18:00 on TUESDAY, May 26, at the STADIO DI URBINO (at the bottom of Via Annuziata). Please come and have a great time, support your team, and watch us play a hard fought match!!!!
In further news, last but not least, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulation to Prof. Stefano Pivato for his success in the rectoral election campaign. I’m sure he will make an excellent rector and will lead this university with compassion and intelligence, helping us put an end to some of our shortcomings and work toward a far greater future!!! CONGRATULATIONS PROFESSOR PIVATO!!!
It is, my friends, a great time to be alive.
SEMPRE AVANTI!!!!
Pete Cullen
