Hi guys! Thanks so much for your comments in the little black book. They are very interesting. One type of comment in particular must be addressed: many of you ask for more exam simulations. The short answer is, as I said during the simulations, that the next round of simulations WILL BE the last week of class.n That’s it. Other than that, you have access to old exam material either from this blog, at the custodians at Via Oddi, or in the usual – text and cassette – format at the CLA. USE THEM! I see that many of you are/do – this is good.
I will explain WHY I’m not going to do more exam simulations during class (other than the ones allocated for the last week of class). 1) If you are coming to class, you ARE practicing for you exam in that I expose you to material that you interact with in English (soon – a film, too!). 2) Doing exam simulations is NOT the same as learning the language! Your English language abilities must be developed in a number of directions, and the exam is ONLY ONE MOMENT in your life!!! Any exam is limited in scope, and can not address the wider range of subjects about which you should develop an understanding. 3) You have class with me ONCE A WEEK! That is not enough to constitute real exam study – even for my exam! You should be downloading the material or using it at the CLA at least 4 times a week. It is like going to the gym – if you don’t go regularly, you won’t get in shape. Your brain is like that too!
So, that the deal guys. The next exam simulations WILL BE during the last week of class. I remind you, however, that I will be available at Caffé del Sole Friday Mornings from 8-9 AM for study consultation. I have a general knowledge of your programme material for the first two years, and have done a lot of studying and exam-taking in my day. So come along, have a coffee and we’ll talk about your exams for an hour.
See you there!
