Ok guys and dolls, daredevils and dreamers! WE’VE GOT THE ABILITY TO UPLOAD MP3s TO THIS BLOG!!! It only took me about a year to get this to work – and in the end it was so simple! SImply pay for the service and the service will PROVIDE!!!
Anyway – this means I can upload my own CL4 podcast to discuss language, culture and business. First, a note about the title. As of this coming academic year we will be LAZ – lingue aziendali (which is unfortunate), so the old CL4 nomiker is now outdated. That said, I insist that the primary business of the programme IS STILL language and CULTURE for business, and not simply business language. You don’t come to university simply to learn how to say “fax machine”. Rather, business processes are inherently culture bound, as our dear friend at Lyon, Prof. Peter Sherwood, would say. This is important. A fax machine is not simply a machine. Like all machines, it is only the way we use them that confers any meaning upon them. The fax machine is simply a cobble-stone in the pathway of communications development, rarely used in most places in the world and almost obsolete today. So the fax machine is part of a commucations trend. You may not have realised this, but our CL4/LAZ course is actually a “communications science” course, according to the Ministry of Education. Doesn’t that sound great! As scientists, therefore, it is our job to help you expand your learning and minds to understand and perhaps even FORESEE trends in communication! Don’t YOU wish that YOU had invented the i-pod!
Well, always two-steps behind the cutting edge, I’ve finally figured out how to get audio files to upload to my blog posts. Now that I have the technology, this means we – you and I and all those interested in participating, can create a weekly CL4/LAZ podcast! Let’s not be LAZy – let’s GET ‘ER DONE!!!! I invite anyone interested to write to me or comment on this blog. The focus should always be “language and culture for business” – but if that isn’t broad enough for you, not even mind-altering drugs are going to help you with your imagination! (that’s a joke – I absolutely condemn the use of mind-altering drugs, and most pharmaceuticals, and cheap wine, and discount beer, and bad cat food.)
So, I forsee a 30 minute to 1 hour format including some news, perhaps an interview or two, and commentary. This can be about: studying in Urbino, travel and work experience, global and local news, of course – the economy and business matters, and some fun. I repeat – did anyone go to the Summer Jamboree? Pistoia blues? I, once again, haven’t left Urbino for months, except to go to Fermignano for an ice-cream. It was very good.
Again, STUDENTS, COLLEAGUES, ADMINISTRATORS, TOWNSPEOPLE, INTERESTED PARTIES, write in and make suggestions as to how this podcast can work for the good of the University of Urbino and LAZ community!
As soon as I upload this file, I’ll see about setting up a CL4/LAZ listening Skype account, which would give us the possiblity of telephone interaction – which I could record for the purposes of the blog and the podcast.
Here’s the link to the podcast!
